Anyways, even for the "average" intelligence of the human population, there are a few who are incredibly dumb.
A couple of days ago in my 23-student college-level class (which was half-full of ADULTS), we had to write our results in tally-marks up on the board. Being me, I go up after a few people tally their results, and I mark all my tallies with an "I" as opposed to a straight "|"--just to be able to easily see where I fit in after everyone tallies in.
Unfortunately, that was the least of my worries for "ease" that day.
What happened next amused me and made me face-palm like never before.
After everyone finished tallying, the professor made sure everyone had come up (saying "if you haven't tallied your results, raise your hand" or something to that effect--no one raised their hands.)
Next, being me, I go and make sure all the tallies are correct, i.e. that each section had a total of 23 tallies.
Here's the sad thing--while about two thirds had 23 tallies, about a fourth had under 23 tallies. And to make matters worse, the rest (a couple of sections) had MORE THAN 23 TALLIES. MORE! AS MANY AS 25 IN SOME CASES.
I wanted to yell, but I didn't. I just sat there quietly, waiting for people to come up and say "OOPS! MY MISTAKE" and fix their faulty marks.
Not one person did it.
Finally, the teacher had to just say "OK, just use the data on the board, since we can't fix it."
So basically we had faulty reports we had to deal with, where the total is anywhere from 20 to 25 total people.
I can't begin to fathom the idiocy and incompetence it takes to do something like this. All you had to do is copy down your results, tally-by-tally, making sure you fill each in, and that you fill each in ONLY ONCE.
Use a defining characteristic to modify your tallies is a great idea. Unfortunately someone took this to an idiocy level as well--marking one of his tallies with a GODDAMN V. I knew this was one person, because if we counted the V is two posts, then there would be YET ANOTHER area where the total number of talliers was OVER 25.
I'm tired. It's late. I can't say much else about this that I haven't said already. Enjoy.
Overall Gross Incompetence Rating:
